In 2015, a sensational criminal case emerged in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, involving the kidnapping and murder of a businessman. This case gained widespread attention not only in Kanpur but throughout the state. After a long trial, the case was finally concluded in 2019 when the court delivered its verdict and sentenced the guilty parties.Suresh Gupta was a well-known businessman in Kanpur, engaged in the clothing trade. His business was flourishing, and he was considered a respected figure in society. On March 15, 2015, like every day, he closed his shop and headed home. However, unknown individuals abducted him on the way. When he did not return home that night, his family grew worried and began searching for him. After failing to find him, they filed a missing person report with the police the next day.The police launched an investigation and attempted to trace Suresh Gupta’s mobile location. They also examined CCTV footage from cameras installed around the city. One crucial piece of footage showed two suspects on a motorcycle following Suresh Gupta’s car. This led the police to believe that the crime was not random but rather a well-planned conspiracy.During the investigation, the police questioned his business rivals and close associates. They soon discovered that Suresh Gupta’s former employee, Ravi Verma, had orchestrated the kidnapping with the help of a gang. Ravi was taken into custody, and under intense interrogation, he confessed to the crime.Ravi Verma admitted that he had kidnapped Suresh Gupta with the intention of extorting ransom. However, when he realized that releasing him would lead to their identification and possible arrest, the gang members decided to kill him. They then dumped his body in a forested area outside the city.Following Ravi Verma’s confession, the police recovered the body from the location he had described. A forensic examination confirmed that the remains belonged to Suresh Gupta. The police then intensified their efforts to apprehend the other criminals involved in the case. Three more individuals were arrested.Four people were named as accused in the case, and a court trial ensued. The prosecution presented evidence, including CCTV footage, call records, and the accused’s confessions, to support their case. On the other hand, the defense argued that their clients had been falsely implicated. However, the overwhelming evidence worked against them. After nearly four years of trial proceedings, in 2019, the court found the main accused, Ravi Verma, along with two others, guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. One of the accused was acquitted due to a lack of substantial evidence. This case created fear and insecurity among traders and citizens in Kanpur. However, after the court's verdict, Suresh Gupta’s family finally received justice. Many people hailed the judgment as a strong example of the judiciary’s fairness. This case became a significant example of the power of law enforcement and the justice system in delivering justice.
